FULL DAY TOUR

Make sure you’re dressed to explore!

You will begin your morning with a complimentary pick-up from your Hotel or Guest House in Oudtshoorn and taken to De Denne where the tour starts.  Your tour will begin with an Ostrich farm tour, you need to put on some comfortable shoes as we will do it farmstyle. Take your camera with as there will be many special moments to capture, especially when you see the chicks hatch. This you do not want to miss.

Travelling along the R328 towards the Swartberg Mountain Pass we have a stop at the Cango Caves, here you can experience the true beauty of these magnificant caves.  The herritage tour will offer you quite some interesting facts, explaining how the caves was discovered as well as give you a feeling of how it was years back.
Heading up the Swartberg Pass you will have one of the greatest views of the Klein Karoo! Here we unpack the picnic basket, pour you a glass of wine and let you to enjoy the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

After a lazy lunch we drive down  the other side of the mountain towards Prince Albert, ringed by vineyards, fruit and Olive farms.  True Karoo hospitality at its best.  You are more than welcome to shop at the Curio shops before we enjoy a decent cup of coffee at one of the local coffee shops. Heading back towards Oudtshoorn we have a quick stop at the Meiringspoort waterfall.  Meiringspoort is one of the most beautiful passes.  The rock formations are so intimidating yet so breathtaking beautiful, definately one of passes you will not forget.  The crystal clear water flowing over the rocks into the pool invites you to dive in, but be aware the temparature of the water maybe on the cold side – even during Summer time.
Meiringspoort is now part of a World Heritage Site, it has been flooded several times in the 140 years  since it has been established.
After all the exercise we get into the vehicle and headed back to Oudtshoorn through a small town De Rust
(here time stood still for a while)  appreciating the diversity of farming on the R62. We round off your day with an easy drive back to your Hotel or Guest House.

What You Can Look Forward To…

The Swartberg Mountain range is composed of two main mountain chains running roughly along the northern edge of the Little Karoo ( Klein Karoo). As most of the Swartberg Mountains are above 2000 m high, this makes it the tallest mountains in the Western Cape. This mountain range is also one of the longest with a span of 230km from Laingsburg to Uniondale, and 70km wide.  The highest point to be the Seweweekspoortpiek at 2325 m (7,628ft).  Scientists have calculated that the Swartberg was originally more than 7000m high, but erosion has worn it down to the current height.

Beautiful rock formations of Quartzitic sandstone gives the Swartberg mountains a scenic view which you will never forget. Much of the Swartberg  is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, with protected areas of Cape Floral.  The Swartberg Pass will provide the finest views of the geology, flora and fauna.

The Swartberg Pass

The Swartberg Pass on the R328 run through the Swartberg mountain range (black mountain in English) which runs roughly east-west along the northern edge of the semi-arid area called the Little Karoo in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Calitzdorp: Quaint Capital of Port

The little town of Calitzdorp, situated on scenic Route 62, is world famous for port wines made in the classic tradition of a high alcohol and relatively low sugar content. The Red Wine and Muscadels produced in this small sleepy village town ranks amongst the best in South Africa.

Meiringspoort Pass

“Meiring’s pass” is a South African mountain pass on the  N12 national road, where it crosses the Swartberg mountain range. The pass is a gateway that connects the Little Karoo and the Great Karoo, through a gorge with a 25 km road crossing the same river 25 times.
